Synopsis:
This by far, isn't the same as the previous Beverly Hills Cop movies. With a new director, the loss of John Ashton's character, and a seven year time gap after part II was released. Seriously though... do you honestly think Beverly Hills Cop III, was a worser sequel in 1994 than other stuff like City Slickers 2(Billy Crystal), D2 The Mighty Ducks(Emilio Estevez), Major League 2(Charlie Sheen), and The Naked Gun 33 1/3(Leslie Neilson)? If anything Beverly Hills Cop 3 is just as good, or actually better with its action genre.
Eddie Murphy... this was Murphy's last classic comedy role, before doing movies we know him in today. Where his comedy is a lot different, to name a few Vampire in Brooklyn, The Nutty Professor, and Metro. These were his next three films, and you can obviously see the action in his career disappear.
Judge Reinhold... if he didn't return for this sequel either as Billy Rosewood, Beverly Hills Cop III would've never been as successful as it was. He once again brings a great character back to life, finishing off his career and the role he started ten years earlier.
Bronson Pinchot... even if he only did have a short ten minute part. He definitely gave this movie a lot of life with his comedy and returning improved character, Serge. Best known for his other movies Second Sight (John Larroquette), and True Romance (Chirstian Slater).
John Landis... I think is one of the best directors in all of the 80's. Doing movies such as Animal House, The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London, Trading Places, Three Amigos!, Coming To America, and Innocent Blood. So as you can see Landis had his job cut out for him. Which I think he did successfully.
All in all... Beverly Hills Cop III, is definitely not the movie it used to be. It's not the greatest sequel with villains played by actors you don't even know. However... this really was a great little action flick. The whole theme park set, pretty much blown up and shot up entirely in the end... was extremely fun to watch. I thought Eddie Murphy was giving a good introduction to all of his new wacky comedy to come. For example, when he dresses up as one of the theme park entertainers.
If you want a very funny, yet serious action movie... I really suggest that Beverly Hills Cop III is the movie to watch.
