Synopsis:
A sci-fi fantasy about a world where it is illegal to enjoy any kind of media except in a place called Megaville. After catching a brutal killer named Jenson, the media police send an agent, Palinov, to infiltrate Jenson's circle of criminals in Megaville because Palinov bears a striking resemblance to Jenson. Palinov, however, begins to suffer intense headaches and has visions of the killings. His mission becomes even more confusing when the president of Megaville is assassinated and the media police seem more interested in doing business with the criminals than catching them.
In a futuristic world, the U.S. is ruled by a repressive government that bans most forms of media. As part of the enforcement, a cop (Billy Zane) is sent to the rebel state of Megaville on an undercover mission to infiltrate an unlawful media organization.
This Sci-Fi thriller starring Billy Zane and Daniel J. Travanti is not a bad film as the reviewer below has written, however, with the constraints of a low budget, it does succeed in being a decent film. Not great mind you, but interesting. The film is not available on DVD, and I don't know if there are any plans to release it as such. Therefore, LASERDISC will have to do for now for those of you interested in buying the film.
The film takes place in a future controlled by a totalitarian regime in which T.V., and the possession of videos are outlawed. The main enforcers are under the control of Daniel J. Travanti [a sort of state czar in charge of arresting those who watch, possess or transfer any film related material into Megaville]. Megaville is a strange place, and without giving away the film, Travanti has hired a hitman to do his bidding in a place called the 'Zone.' It it an autonomous region [the whereabouts are never quite clear] in which people try to get into, in order to live a more democratic life.
Zane is actually a hitman whose loyalties are to neither side. He has been enlisted into the state police of Megaville due to a chip that has been implanted in his brain. He is not aware that he is this hitman; but in actuality believes that he is a protector of the state: Enforcing the laws of Megaville. His job is to infiltrate the 'Zone' and find an illegal drug known as 'Dream a Life.' Things go wrong however, when the implanted chip backfires and causes more problems than they are worth for Daniel J. Travanti. This film will not appeal to all tastes, especially since it is a low budget film, which is apparent. But the film did appeal to me. It is a little quirky, and has a very weird ending. Recommend with caution.
THIS IS NOT A DVD!!! THIS IS A 12" LASERDISC AND WILL NOT PLAY IN A DVD PLAYER
